Our
Story
Welcome to The Iron Kidney Project. I’m Andrew Langston, the founder, and I’m honored to share my personal journey and the mission behind this platform. At the heart of our work is a simple yet profound goal: to raise awareness about the transformative impact of living kidney donation and to provide a supportive space for those considering becoming living donors. We are here to guide you as you take the first step toward making an extraordinary difference in the lives of others.

A little about me: I’m 32 years old, a husband, father of two, and an athlete from York, Pennsylvania. On December 3, 2024—Giving Tuesday—I made the life-changing decision to donate a kidney to a stranger in need. This decision was inspired by a Facebook post I saw about Gino, a 20-year-old in urgent need of a kidney transplant. His story moved me, and I felt compelled to act.

At the time, I had just completed my fifth full Ironman triathlon in 12 months—a challenging feat that demonstrated the incredible potential of the human body. Despite the rigorous training for both the Ironman and the donation process, I did not hesitate to give. The entire experience was life-altering, and I remain deeply grateful for the care and support I received throughout. It reaffirmed my passion for health, wellness, and the importance of community.

Through The Iron Kidney Project, I aim to show that living donation can be seamlessly integrated into life and, in many ways, can enhance it. As a husband, father, and athlete, I hope to serve as a representative for living donors and share the powerful stories of others who have made similar life-changing decisions.
Nine months after my donation, I will be competing in the 2025 Ironman World Championship in Nice, France, proving that it is possible to lead an active, fulfilling life after kidney donation.

The journey I’ve taken is a testament to the fact that no challenge is too great when it comes to making a difference. Through this platform, I hope to inspire others to consider becoming living donors and show that the act of giving can create lasting change for both the donor and the recipient. Thank you for being part of this important mission.

Sincerely,
Andrew Langston
